Former Raiders RB Marcus Allen named greatest offensive player in team history

May 13, 2020 by Raiders Wire Leave a Comment

The Raiders have a long history of having outstanding offensive players. From quarterbacks Ken Stabler and Jim Plunkett to wide receivers Fred Blitenkof and Tim Brown, the Raiders have been loaded with offensive talent over the previous five decades. But the one player who stands among the rest is running back Marcus Allen.

Allen was drafted by the Raiders in the first round at pick No. 10 in the 1982 NFL Draft. In nine games as a rookie, he scored 14 touchdowns and was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Allen went on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Raiders, playing 11 years in the Silver and Black.

In a recent piece by Barry Werner of the Touchdown Wire, Allen was named the team’s best offensive player. Take a look at why Werner believes this former USC running back was the best offensive player in team history:

Marcus Allen played 11 years with the Raiders, making the Pro Bowl five times and earning NFL MVP honors in 1985 after tallying 2,314 total yards from scrimmage. He won a Super Bowl (XVIII) and was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2003.

While Allen’s usage was sporadic after the 1985 season, he was a valuable receiver and blocker for the Raiders, as well. Allen played 16 seasons in the NFL, totaling 12,803 yards from scrimmage and 144 touchdowns.
