There’ve been plenty of questionable takes thrown around when it comes to the Patriots quarterback battle this year, but this one from former New England QB Scott Zolak might take the cake.
During yesterday’s episode of 98.5 The Sports Hub, the 53-year-old Pats insider said his former team needs to turn off the rap music at practice because it’s “distracting” Cam Newton.
“I’d turn off the rap music first of all,” Zolak, who was reporting from practice yesterday, said. “Because I think it’s distracting for Cam here. Because in between every throw he’s dancing.
“He can’t help himself.”

Zolak then compared Newton’s fun-loving attitude to rookie quarterback Mac Jones’ “attention to detail.”
“Like, he’s here to work. And everything is attention to detail,” he said of Jones.
If you’ve followed Newton’s football career in any capacity, you know this is just how he operates. Even during his league MVP season in 2015, the superstar QB was constantly busting out the moves.
Zolak acknowledged the fact that this is the status quo for Newton.
“This is nothing different,” he said. “…that’s Cam’s style.”
For that reason, it’s hard to imagine that rap music and dancing is a distraction for Newton. If anything, it means the veteran QB is locked into his typical routine.
As the quarterback competition between Newton and Jones continues to rage on, Bill Belichick has yet to name the team’s Week 1 starter.
The vet and the rookie will look to make their final preseason impressions in a matchup against the New York Giants on Sunday.
