A former Major League Baseball pitcher had some blunt comments on the state of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcasts.
Brandon McCarthy, who pitched in the majors from 2005-18, weighed in on ESPN’s broadcast, which features Matt Vasgersian and Alex Rodriguez.
The former MLB pitcher is very much not a fan of the broadcasting team.
“Just can’t listen to these games anymore. Baseball has to do better than this,” he tweeted on Sunday night during the Mets vs. Dodgers game.
McCarthy had some specific comments on A-Rod, as well.
“A-Rod doesn’t speak like a person who’s ever had a normal conversation. Tonally, inflection, the points he’s making, and how he makes them…all of it pushes you away as opposed to drawing you in,” he tweeted.

ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast has been receiving mixed reviews for years. It can be tough to put together a formidable national broadcast when it comes to Major League Baseball. The majority of fans really prefer their local broadcasting teams to the national ones.
Still, it’s clear that ESPN’s broadcast has its fair share of critics, McCarthy among them.
