Former Canadian Football League Standout Reportedly Cut Monday

August 30, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Miami Dolphins helmet sits on the turf.

The Miami Dolphins shrunk their roster from 80 to 53 players on Monday. In doing so, they cut the former Canadian Football League’s Most Outstanding Rookie.

The Dolphins said goodbye to defensive back Nat Holley on Monday. He appeared in three games last season and came up with three tackles. Holley was primarily a special teams contributor, having taken 45 special teams snaps throughout his career.

Holley was the Most Outstanding Rookie in the Canadian Football League during the 2019 season. He finished the year with 78 tackles, one sack and one interception. He then signed with the Dolphins last year. It’s plausible Miami brings him back on the practice squad.

For now, Holley is out of the NFL, but that could change in a hurry.

“The Miami Dolphins have released Nate Holley, as per Tom Pelissero,” as reported by 3DownNation.com. “The five-foot-10, 200-pound defender appeared in three games with the team last season, recording three total tackles. The 26-year-old Holley played in all 18 games for the Calgary Stampeders in 2019 when he notched 78 defensive tackles, 22 special team tackles, one sack and one interception. For his efforts, Holley was named the league’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2019.”

Safety Nate Holley, the onetime CFL rookie of the year, has been released by the #Dolphins, per source.

The Dolphins’ preseason in the books and they can now look forward to the 2021 season.

Miami begins the season on Sunday, Sept. 12 with an AFC East battle against the New England Patriots. A week later, the Dolphins take on the Buffalo Bills.

We will learn plenty about this Miami team by the end of Week 2.
