On Thursday afternoon, the Florida football program received some devastating news about one of the team’s players.
Gage Wilcox, a tight end for the program, reportedly suffered a significant injury in training camp. According to head coach Billy Napier, the injury will at least end his season and could be the end of his football career.
“He’s injured. It’s going to be a season, or really a career-ending injury for him,” Napier said via Gators Online. “Very unfortunate for Gage but certainly, while he was here with us he did a fantastic job. He’s certainly tough.”

Wilcox joined the Florida football program as a four-star recruit. According to a report from Gators Online, he was spotted at practice during the first few days of spring camp. However, Wilcox hadn’t been seen during that open portion since the second practice.
He didn’t make much of an impact during the 2021 season when he failed to record a statline. However, he was expected to contribute this fall as the Gators’ were thin at tight end.
