Fans are worried about Christian Wilkins’ injury status

Defensive tackle trying to return from foot injury

There’s no other way to say it … Las Vegas Raiders fans are worried about Christian Wilkins’ return from a 2024 foot injury.

We recently asked our community members if they were concerned about the star defensive tackle’s injury status. The results were overwhelming.

In a poll with almost 700 votes, 71 percent of the voters explained there were, indeed, worried, while just 29 percent are confident Wilkins will be ready for the start of the regular season, September 7 at the New England Patriots.

In May, Las Vegas coach Pete Carroll addressed Wilkins’ return from injury for the first time as the coach called the process “challenging.” Carroll didn’t elaborate much on the extend of Wilkins’ setback. But the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the belief was Wilkins, who signed a four-year, $110 million free-agent contract with Las Vegas in 2024, either had an inserted screw break or an actual bone break during his rehab. The report stated the team is hopeful he can return to practice in August, weeks before the start of the season. He was seen wearing a waking boot in late June.

I understand why fans are concerned. But the truth is, we just have to see what happens during training camp and then go from there.

Here are some of your responses. Sign up and go to the comments section.

He might miss the first 3-4 games, but he will be ready at some point in 2025.
Foot injuries are really tough. Your feet are everything for an athlete, but for heavier athletes it’s even tougher.
How many NBA centers were hobbled with foot and ankle injuries.

Sounds like Wilkins is done for good. I’ve never heard of a surgical screw breaking, but it’s easy to imagine the bone around the screw insertion point breaking which would probably preclude the injury ever being “fixed” correctly. Plus Pete used the deal killer description “challenging”. Have you ever heard of a player returning after a coach used that term about an injury? Nope. He’s done. Pay him off and move forward.

I am in wait and see mode also. However, one of those reported options is that the rebroke the foot, which would seem to mean he ain’t close to being back. A break that cost him like 6 months and wasn’t healthy enough to start working out surely isn’t gonna get healed and ready to go in a month.
