The Atlanta Falcons have a couple of openings for wide receivers now that Calvin Ridley is suspended for the year. One of those openings has just been filled though.
On Monday, the Falcons announced that they have signed wide receiver Auden Tate to a one-year contract. Tate has spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals.
In 35 games since going 253rd overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, Tate has 61 receptions for 799 yards and two touchdowns. He also has some special teams experience but was more widely used as a slot receiver.
Tate saw his most extensive action in 2019 – his second year in the league. He had 40 receptions for 575 yards and a touchdown that year.
Sadly, injuries have been a major hindrance to Tate during his career. He’s finished each of the last three seasons on injured reserve – usually with leg injuries.
We have signed WR Auden Tate to a one-year contract.

Fortunately for Auden Tate, there isn’t a more receiver-needy team in the NFL right now. Tate is now only the fifth Atlanta Falcons wide receiver under contract for the 2022 NFL season.
The other four are Frank Darby, Chad Hansen, KhaDarel Hodge and Austin Trammell. That’s not exactly a murderer’s row of tough competition heading into training camp.
Atlanta might wind up adding some more receivers in the NFL Draft, but they might have the thinnest corps of receivers in the league when all is said and done.
Will Auden Tate enjoy a career resurgence with the Falcons in 2022?
