After seven season as head coach, Bo Pelini was fired by Nebraska following the 2014 season. During his time with the Cornhuskers, he never won less than nine games in a single season.
Since Pelini was let go, the Huskers have had exactly one winning campaign, going 9-4 under Mike Riley in 2016. Judging by yesterday’s result against Illinois, Nebraska will finish under .500 again in 2021.
While the Huskers were busy falling to the Illini and putting more pressure on Scott Frost, social media was having fun reminding everyone that the university let go of Pelini for, among other things, his inability to win big enough.
Nine or 10 wins seems plenty big at this point.
May we never forget that the #Huskers fired Bo Pelini for winning at least 9 games in SEVEN consecutive seasons…

You know, Bo Pelini doesn’t have a job right now. Just saying …

If Nebraska doesn’t come back from this 2-TD deficit and loses, this will be Scott Frost’s 21st loss in 33 games — 3 games short of 3 full seasons.
Bo Pelini lost 27 games in 7 seasons and 94 games.

it’s so funny nebraska got bored with winning 9-10 games consistently and instead opted for this

Please keep in mind that Nebraska fired Bo Pelini for ONLY consistently winning 9 games a year (and for being Bo Pelini).

Scott Frost only has to go 55-6 to match Bo Pelini’s record at Nebraska.

Look, Pelini certainly had his share of other issues, and this type of criticism of Nebraska is easy, almost too easy. That doesn’t mean it is inaccurate though.
Do some Nebraska fans need to adjust their expectations about the ceiling of the program? Probably. But the floor still shouldn’t be what it is right now.
