ESPN Releases Statement On High School Football Fiasco

ESPN has released a statement on the high school football fiasco that took place in Ohio on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday afternoon, IMG Academy (Florida) played Bishop Sycamore (Ohio) in a nationally-televised game on ESPN. IMG throttled Bishop Sycamore, 58-0.

While the game was bad, the details surrounding it are worse. Essentially, Bishop Sycamore duped ESPN into thinking they were a legitimate high school football program with several top recruits. However, Bishop Sycamore is a questionable-at-best high school football team with little to no top recruits.

“Bishop Sycamore told us they had a number of Division I prospects on their roster,” ESPN announcer Anish Shroff said. “To be frank, a lot of that we could not verify.”

ESPN has since released a statement.

“We regret that this happened and have discussed it with Paragon, which secured the matchup and handles the majority of our high school event scheduling. They have ensured us that they will take steps to prevent this kind of situation from happening moving forward,” ESPN’s statement reads.

There are several crazy details from Sunday’s game and more will likely emerge in the days to come.

Reading so many stories on Bishop Sycamore today, so let me share this one – They played a defender on Sunday that’s originally a 2020 from Florida. Kid has reported over two dozen fake offers. Showed up once to a 7v7 tryout and used a fake ID. His HUDL is also fake. Amazing.

IMG Academy, meanwhile, is one of the top high school football programs in the country and will likely be featured on more national TV games moving forward.
