Few NFL offseasons in recent memory have been as active and compelling as this year’s. On Tuesday, ESPN NFL analyst Marcus Spears went over his most impactful moves, and one in particular stood above the rest in his mind.
“Listen, all of these receivers, all of this offense in the AFC West… somebody gotta cover ’em … And J.C. Jackson is as good as they come in the NFL,” Spears explained on ESPN’s “NFL Live.”

“He had eight interceptions at the cornerback spot last year. We know Brandon Staley likes to go for fourth-downs from his own 17 and put his defense backs against the wall,” the former Cowboys D-lineman continued. “Well J.C. Jackson gon help… [he’s] No. 1 for me. Cause these quarterbacks even out, these offenses even out… who gon play some damn defense?”
Jackson agreed to a five-year, $82.5 million deal to join the Chargers last month.
2021 saw the undrafted corner out of Maryland earn his first Pro Bowl honors. Jackson recorded 58 tackles, eight interceptions, 23 pass breakups, a forced fumble and a touchdown across his 17 starts.
For whatever reason, the Patriots didn’t make much of an effort to keep him in New England. So now, much Marcus Spears’ pleasure, he’ll man-up on the outside with the Bolts defense.
