Former Buffalo quarterback Tyree Jackson has been quite impressive this offseason in his new role for the Philadelphia Eagles. Unfortunately though, he suffered an injury in practice on Tuesday that will force him to miss an extended period of time.
According to multiple reports, Jackson suffered a fractured bone in his back after landing awkwardly in the end zone during team drills. Surgery isn’t required for this injury, but the quarterback-turned-tight end will be sidelined for 8-10 weeks.
Jackson was making a strong impression on his teammates in his first offseason as a tight end. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco recently raved about Jackson’s frame and route-running.
“It’s not like you’re looking all over and then, ‘Oh, there he is,’” Flacco said, via NBC Sports. “He’s a big guy, he’s a huge target, he’s really long, he runs really well, he has a really good feel for how to find the open window and get his eyes to the quarterback, so he does have a lot of those natural things, it’s just getting used to playing the position and making some mistakes at full speed and getting better because of it.”

During the Eagles’ preseason opener, Jackson had two catches for 32 yards. He was hoping to have an even better performance this week against the New England Patriots, but his back injury has derailed those plans.
Philadelphia already has two proven playmakers at tight end in Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. That being said, the coaching staff seems to be very intrigued with Jackson’s potential.
The Eagles could wait until final roster cuts are due to place Jackson on injured reserve. In theory, they could redshirt him this season and allow him to develop once his back heals.
