Before they square off this Thursday night, the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles are going head-to-head this Tuesday afternoon in a joint practice.
It didn’t take long for the two sides to voice their differences, as Eagles safety K’Von Wallace called Cam Newton “checkdown king”during the 7-on-7 drills.
Wallace then yelled “running back” at Newton later on in practice. These nicknames don’t appear to be bothering Newton though.
According to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, Newton was 13-for-15 in team drills. He also performed well in a brief 11-on-11 period.

Newton hasn’t been named the starter for Week 1, but ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler recently said the former MVP is the favorite to win the job.
“Cam Newton is the favorite, but he’s got work to do here,” Fowler said on Get Up. “I keep hearing that Bill Belichick trusts Cam Newton, that he’s in position to start Week 1, but he’s got to make some progress here because Mac Jones is coming. He showed accuracy and decision-making all of training camp, and he showed it again last night.”
Though he didn’t look spectacular in limited action last week, Newton appears to be trending in the right direction.
If Newton can light up the Eagles this Thursday, he may just solidify his status as the Patriots’ starting quarterback.
