Given everything going on in the pop culture world, it’s a tough time to share a name with Will Smith.
During Thursday’s spring training matchup between the Dodgers and Rangers, Texas fans booed LA catcher Will Smith as he stepped up to the plate.
He then “slapped” a triple into straightaway centerfield, per Dodgers insider Juan Toribio.

This play on words is of course in reference to the actor Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on stage during Sunday night’s Academy Awards.
MLB fans took to Twitter to react to today’s incident.
“We have a whole season of these tweets coming up,” one fan wrote.
“He’s the rock of this team,” another added.

Smith is entering his fourth major-league season with the Dodgers. In 2021, he logged 107 hits, 25 home runs and 76 RBIs through 130 games and 414 at bats. He’s the only projected LA starter without an MLB All-Star appearance to his name.
Smith and his Los Angeles squad currently trail the Rangers 1-5 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Dodgers will kick off their 2022 season with an Opening Day matchup against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, April 8.
