Daryl Worley heads to Raiders reserve/COVID-19 list

December 19, 2020 by Raiders Wire Leave a Comment

There are two weeks left in the season. And it’s possible Daryl Worley could spend them on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The veteran defensive back was signed by the Raiders last week and appeared in his first game of the season in Silver & Black and the next day was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Often times it’s the player with the initial positive test who gets placed on the list first prior to those who are considered to be close contacts. The players who test positive usually spend two weeks on the list. Being that it’s prior to the Sunday game, should Worley spend exactly two weeks on the list, he would return two days before the Raiders’ season finale in Denver.

Worley started the game at safety for the Raiders and played the majority of the defensive snaps. His unfamiliarity with the defense and the position switch was apparent on several plays, including a 26-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Even still, the team signed him and put him in for a reason. That reason is they are woefully thin in the secondary, particularly at safety.

While safety Jeff Heath is on injured reserve and won’t return until the season finale at the earliest, Jon Gruden is once again hoping Johnathan Abram will be able to come back this week along with cornerback Damon Arnette. All three suffered concussions and were unable to play on the short week. Now they have a long week ahead which would figure to raise their chances of making it back.

Also currently on the Raiders’ reserve/COVID-19 list are WR Henry Ruggs III and LB Tanner Muse.
