On Wednesday, the Indiana Hoosiers made a significant change to their coaching staff. It was announced that assistant basketball coach Dane Fife will not return for the 2022-23 season.
Indiana head coach Mike Woodson released a statement on the team’s decision regarding Fife.
“I am committed to doing what I believe is best for the continued growth of our men’s basketball program as we collectively work toward returning it to the upper echelon of college basketball,” Woodson said. “Sometimes, that commitment can result in some very difficult decisions, and that is the case today. Ultimately, I believe that the fit must be right with a coaching staff, and I’ve decided that a change is necessary. I appreciate everything Dane has done as a member of the staff during the last year and as a player for our program. He will always be a part of the Hoosier family and I wish him well in his future pursuits.”
For the most part, the college basketball world is surprised that Fife isn’t returning to Indiana.
“This is wild,” an Indiana fan tweeted.

“No way Woodson is dumb enough to fire his best assistant coach(a coach that would make a better HC than Woodson) Fife had to say he wants out. Izzo would take him back in a second,” one fan said.

Fife was a starter for Indiana from 1998 to 2002. Hoosiers fans were excited when he joined Woodson’s staff last April.
It’ll be interesting to see what’s next for Fife.
