Instead of taking a quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions opted to roll with Jared Goff. The veteran quarterback has struggled at times this season, but he’s also had some impressive games.
Even though Goff has been in the NFL for a while now, he’s just 27 years old. With him under contract through the 2024 season, the Lions will have an important decision to make.
The Lions will have to either commit to Goff for the 2022 season, or use their draft capital to snag a young quarterback.
On Tuesday morning, Lions head coach Dan Campbell commented on his team’s quarterback situation.
“Yeah, I mean I don’t see why not,” Campbell said when asked if Goff can be the Lions’ long-term answer at quarterback. “He’s playing pretty good ball now.”

Goff is completing a career-high 67.0 percent of his throws this season. In 13 starts, the former No. 1 overall pick has 3,007 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Before he tested positive for COVID-19 last week, Goff picked apart the Arizona Cardinals’ secondary in an upset win. He finished that game with 216 passing yards and three touchdowns.
With two games remaining in the regular season, Goff will try to leave no doubt that he can be the Lions’ quarterback beyond just 2022.
