Dak Prescott has been dealing with a shoulder strain for the past few weeks. Thankfully, it sounds like he’s trending in the right direction.
According to Dallas Cowboys reporter David Helman, the team is expected to let Prescott throw during 7-on-7 drills this afternoon.
This is the first competitive drill Prescott will participate in since the first week of training camp Ben DiNucci, Garrett Gilbert and Cooper Rush have been taking snaps under center during Prescott’s absence.
Last week, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said that Prescott’s workload in practice would ramp up before they make a decision for the season opener. As long as Prescott gets through this Wednesday without any setbacks, the coaching staff will continue to increase his workload.
Some good news: Dak Prescott is expected to throw in 7-on-7 today.

Earlier this week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was asked if he’s nervous about Prescott’s shoulder recovery. Jones quickly dismissed that notion, saying “He’s there…when he wants to right now he can let it go.”
If Prescott is at full strength this fall, he expects to put up big numbers. After all, he was lighting up defenses in 2020 prior to suffering a season-ending injury.
“I’m telling you, I’m going to be a better player in every aspect when I’m back,” Prescott said in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “A lot of the things that have happened, they’ve allowed me to be here, but I don’t even know if I’ve reaped the strength yet. What I mean is … that’s to come.”
