Fans wax poetic on their favorite moment as a Raiders’ fan

A new season of Las Vegas Raiders’ football is starting and the excitement is great.

A new season of memories is about to embark and with that in mind, we took the opportunity to make this week’s Tuesday Community Question subject about your favorite Raiders’ memory.

We asked what is your favorite moment as a fan of the Silver and Black.

Being a Raiders fan is personal, special and important to fans. I love hearing the very personal thoughts of our community members and it is another reminder how important the team is to this fan base.

Here are some of your responses:

The day my wife became a Raider fan, Cinderella Super Bowl Sunday.
Her uncle played OL for the Eagles, her dad was Vermeil’s roommate in college, the family knew a bunch of Philly players . . . So of course she wanted the Eagles, and of course we were fighting about it. And we weren’t married yet. Haha.
I was kinda pissed and went to a party without her, all Raider fans obviously, and just before kickoff she shows up wearing silver and black. Now that’s what I call love. So I pushed a girl off my lap (gotta have options, right?) and made room for her on the couch. Together ever since.

My best moment was on the job – working the sidelines as a photographer for the Raiders / Dolphins game down here. Had the choice of being the photog or the writer – almost went with writing the story because thought I might get a chance to meet Al Davis upstairs. Turns out he didn’t want to talk to anyone, so glad I picked being on the field. I had the whole Raider sideline to myself because all the homey photogs wanted to be on the Fins side. So it was me, the Dolphin cheerleaders and the Raiders. Got to chat with Fred Biletnikoff before the game, had a moment with Jeff “Mick” Jaeger and his helmet, caught the “just another white QB” moment between Art Shell and Jeff Hostetler on film… went to OT and we lost but it was still a great game start to finish.

My 1st Raiders game was at narrowhead. Jamarcus was the QB. We were losing all game until he somehow pulls a play out of his ass and wins us the game in the final seconds. I believe a touchdown pass. Dont remember to who. Fights broke out all over the place and people talking alot of sh!t. I remember marching out of the stadium chanting RRRAAIIIDDDEEERS!!! The whole place was booming with fans of the silver and black.

I had Dinner with the Oakland Raiders in 1996 at the Oakland Hyatt Regency right after the home game vs Miami Dolphins…We won 17-7…I met Jeff Hostetler, Greg Beikert, Rob Fredrickson, Terry McDaniel and Kevin Gogan…My buddy went to high school with one of the waterboys and he slipped us the tickets in the bathroom next to the banquet room…Al had a dinner there for the players and family after every home game!…We sat at the table right next to head coach Mike White…This was the year when they moved back to Oakland…Great Memories!!!

I’m 13.
Rainy Sunday, can’t go to the rifle range.
So Pops, myself, and his Dodge Grand Polara battleship would meander up to Skyline Blvd, park and listen to the game. We could look down at the stadium, our own little cheapskate hill. Dad was a bit thrifty. Tickets? No way…but after 3 hours of Bill King…we may as well have been at the stadium.
Nothing great, nothing special, but somehow a precious memory all the same.
