Community pulse: Here’s hoping this weekend doesn’t make you mad

Community members vent over past draft miscues

We spent this week, draft week, asking our community members different draft themed questions.

One of those question was what draft picks the Raiders have made in the past still makes our community members mad.

From reading your many responses, the classic and awesome passion of the Raider Nation came out. This fan base has a great memory. Plus, this wasn’t embraced as which was the biggest bust (yes, JaMarcus Russell was mentioned), but a lot of picks bothered fans, especially when the franchise bypassed a better player to take a lesser talent.

For me and some readers, Robert Gallery over Larry Fitzgerald in 2004 stood out as a big miss.

But we move forward and hopefully, no picks made this weekend bother our community members in the coming years.

Here are some of your responses:

Indy!

I see a lot of “we could have had THAT guy” going on here, which really doesn’t have much to do with the actual pick. The Indy Standard for a “pick” is everything that was happening UP TO that pick – not what comes after. When a team makes a pick – they take everything into consideration before turning in their draft card. After that – the “pick” is done. You can’t go back and say “Yeah, but the guy right after him ended up being better”. That is post-pick, not the pick. That’s why the obvious WORST RAIDER PICK EVER is…

DJ Hayden

There was absolutely NO REASON to draft him that high – NONE. We were rebuilding the entire team, we could have filled basically ANY position (except maybe QB because we had Carson) – and Reggie picks a guy in the hospital who can’t even get on the field for at least 3/4s of the season. That is a HORRIBLE pick. Worse than Jamarcus. Worse than Seabass (who was actually a great Al Davis pick). And yes… even worse than Arnette.

3 draft picks in the 1st round in 2020… ….and didn’t draft Hurts…. He went 53rd… Did we pass 4 times?

We were set with scrubs in our QB room after a mediocre 2019 season…

There’s a lot of them

-Jamarcus set us back a decade

-Darmon Arnette – huge REACH on a guy that’s not that good AND has BAD character issues… I mean, wtf? Upside? Average player. Downside? Well, we are familiar with that.

Those two are so bad that Clelin Ferrell, Hayward Bey, and DJ Hayden, while terrible picks, don’t register as high.

Is it too early to call Tyree Wilson a bust? I really hope he puts it together personally, but he feels like a linger EFF YOU from the McDummy regime.

No one Ever talks about LT Robert Gallery. 6″7 325 lbs. We drafted him no.2 overall in 2004 draft. He had all the measurables in spades. Everyone had a gold jacket waiting for him when he retired. In terms of what was expected ? He is EASILY one of our biggest disappointments Ever. To add insult to injury; WR Larry Fitzgerald (who we could’ve used) was taken with the very next pick.

Jamarcus, passing on Megatron and Adrian Peterson, two of the best all-time.

But even worse was passing on Aaron Rodgers, who played college ball right down the freeway, for a medicore CB in Fabian Washington. That was just criminal. There are so many others but we can’t dwell in the past.

In regards to Cle Ferrel and Damond Arnette; those players were widely considered reaches at the time. We should be mad at Gruden who always tried to outsmart everyone.

Tyree Wilson without a doubt…had a fractured foot and wasn’t identified or divulged until after we selected him. Now that’s malpractice if I ever saw it.
