Fans chimes in on the importance of NFL training camp

We are more than a week into the start of training camp for the 2025 Las Vegas Raiders.

So, this week, for our Tuesday Community Question topic, we decided to keep it to exactly that — the the matt of training camp. We asked our readers if they think training camp performance matters?

We has some interesting responses. To me, the purpose of training camp is multifold. But at the end of the day, it’s all about installation, preparation and development, especially in the first year of a new program like what is happening under Pete Carroll in Las Vegas.

Here are some of your responses:

To me, not even a little bit. Performance is not the goal. I see blogs reporting on stats for some reason. Installs and learning are more important. I don’t care Geno’s completion percentage or if he scrambled for a TD when nobody was allowed to touch him. I don’t care if Maxx got credited for a sack when he is not allowed to touch the QB. IMO, that is what “performance” is referring to.

Does training camp performance matter? Ask Romo:

Absolutely. All the offseason components are vital to building and getting a team ready for the long season of football.

I particularly love the rapport Geno is establishing with Thornton in camp. According to Thornton, Geno told him, “If I see you with single coverage I’m coming to you.”
That is huge, a guy the defense must fear and game plan for who isn’t named Bowers. I don’t expect Thornton to be Davante Adams but I could see him bringing the threat Ruggs brought.
