Carson Wentz’s tenure with the Indianapolis Colts started on the wrong foot – literally. Two weeks ago, he underwent surgery to remove a piece of bone that had broken loose in his foot.
Even though Wentz’s injury has a recovery timeline of five to 12 weeks, the Pro Bowl quarterback plans on being out there for the Colts’ season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. However, the coaching staff wants to set some guidelines for Wentz before he’s allowed to return.
According to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, the Colts won’t allow Wentz to push his rehab process at this moment. Wentz is reportedly “getting antsy” and wants to take that next step.
Keefer also mentioned that Wentz is taking walkthrough reps. This is a great sign that he’s trending in the right direction.
Before the Colts give Wentz the green light to start, head coach Frank Reich wants to see his quarterback get two weeks of practice in.
Carson Wentz update:
• He’s “getting antsy” + wants to push rehab; Colts won’t let him
• Started taking walkthru reps but hasn’t begun intense part of rehab. How he responds to that tells team if he can go Week 1
• Ideally, Reich wants 2 wks of practice w/ him before opener

Indianapolis won’t rush Wentz back from this foot injury, especially since he has a history of missing time on the field.
Colts owner Jim Irsay recently told reporters that Wentz needs to be at full strength before he’s allowed to play. The Colts are fully invested in him as their quarterback and want him to be healthy for the long haul.
“I told him, ‘I want you at 100 percent,’” Irsay said. “We want to see him healthy in two months, in two years, four years.”
Only time will tell if Wentz is ready for Week 1 of the 2021 season.
