Carson Wentz was supposed to elevate the Indianapolis Colts this season. While he did have some strong moments, his performance in Week 18 against the Jacksonville Jaguars was just really disappointing.
On Thursday, Colts general manager Chris Ballard discussed Wentz’s first season with the team. In the process of doing so, he made an interesting remark about the quarterback’s future in Indianapolis.
“At the time, we felt it was the right decision,” Ballard told reporters. “I’m not going to make a comment on who is going to be here next year and who is not.”

Ballard isn’t the only member of the Colts who was noncommittal this week about Wentz being the starter for the 2022 season.
When asked if Wentz would be the team’s starting quarterback in 2022, Colts head coach Frank Reich danced around the question.
“We loved the team we had this year, we knew everyone we brought in this year, we expected to play winning football,” Reich said, via IndyStar. “Next year’s roster will be next year’s roster. I don’t want to open it up about one player and then start talking about all of them.”
Wentz finished the 2021 season with 3,563 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Even though Wentz’s stat line this season was fine, the Colts probably want more out of their quarterback considering his base salary for 2022 is $22 million.
