College Track Athlete Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle While Training

April 2, 2022 by The Spun

Shot of the NCAA track in 2018.

Eli Cramer, a track star for Milligan University, was struck by a car and killed while running in Virginia on Thursday.

He was 20 years old.

Five members of the Milligan cross country team were running along Williamsburg Pottery Road yesterday evening when three of them were hit by a Scion, per a statement from the Virginia State Police acquired by TMZ Sports.

Jose Efrain Hernandez Mancia, the driver of the vehicle, allegedly attempted to flee the scene before crashing into a median on Route 199. He was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The injured members of the Milligan team were transported to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. The other two athletes who were struck by the vehicle sustained minor to serious injuries.

Alex Mortimer, one of the injured athletes, released a video from the hospital saying he suffered a broken leg and a dislocated shoulder.

Cramer passed away as a result of his injuries.

“He held a contagious energy that was integral to his team and our campus community,” the university said in a statement. “Please continue to pray for Cramer’s family as they begin to make sense of yesterday’s tragedy. Pray for our entire cross country/track & field team, their coaches and our entire community.”
Mancia, 26, was arrested and charged with DUI-first offense, DUI-involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, one felony count of hit-and-run, DUI-maiming and refusing to submit a breath/blood sample.

The incident is still under investigation, per Virginia State Police.

Our thoughts are with the Kramer family and Milligan community through this difficult time.
