Another day, another unsurprising update on Tate Martell.

The former Ohio State and Miami quarterback has landed at UNLV. Martell, a former top recruit, transferred to his hometown school earlier this offseason.

However, it doesn’t look like Martell will be playing for UNLV anytime soon.

UNLV released its Week 1 depth chart on Monday morning. Martell is nowhere to be found on the depth chart.

The college football world is not surprised.

These kind of players are always fascinating. https://t.co/DVMfECGJ3I

Commits to Washington ➡️ Commits to Texas A&M ➡️ Commits to Ohio State ➡️ Transfers to Miami (FL) ➡️ Transfers to UNLV ➡️ 🤷 https://t.co/Xa1j4rf4bX

I said it in my article last week. Martell won’t be QB1 right away, but it would be dumb if the Rebels don’t utilize his talent in Week 1 https://t.co/npSgvCqZTp

Martell opened up about his transfer decision earlier this month.

“The schools I was talking to randomly stopped talking to me once I told them I had surgery on my thumb,” Martell wrote in a series of slides on the TikTok post. “I hit rock bottom about a year ago and was going to quit football. Decided one random day to leave Miami and come home and train. Dedicated all my time to graduating, getting in the best shape of my life and changing myself as a person.

“Then two months ago I had surgery on my thumb, thought everything I worked to become was for nothing. UNLV still gave me the opportunity to play for them. I’m extremely grateful. I’m continuing to recover from surgery and work everyday with my teammates.”

UNLV is set to open the 2021 regular season on Thursday, Sept. 2 against Eastern Washington.
