For the first time since 2008, the Kansas Jayhawks are national championships. On Monday night, they erased a 15-point halftime deficit to defat the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Kansas’ top playmakers all stepped up in the second half, especially Remy Martin and David McCormack. They made some key shots for the Jayhawks down the stretch.
North Carolina had a couple of great looks from beyond the arc to tie the game in the closing seconds, but Hubert Davis’ squad was unable to convert when it truly needed a basket.
At the end of the day, Kansas managed to survive by a final score of 72-69.

Of course, the sports world had a lot to say about Kansas’ championship performance.
“That Big 12 basketball built different,” Robert Griffin III tweeted. “Congrats to National Champions Kansas on a great game and season. Respect.”

“Bill Self has had some bad, bad, bad NCAA Tournament flameouts. But this is huge for his legacy: the largest comeback in national championship game history to win his second title,” Kyle Tucker of The Athletic said.

This run from Kansas might not have been the most dominant one we’ve ever seen, but the ending was truly historical.
Kansas’ second-half run against North Carolina was the largest halftime comeback we’ve ever seen in championship game history.
Congrats to the Jayhawks on a job well done this season.
