Albany men’s basketball coach Dwayne Killings will serve a five-game suspension at the start of the 2022-23 season and pay a $25,000 fine for “inappropriate physical contact” with a player, the university announced on Saturday.
The university’s internal investigation ruled that the contact was an “isolated incident.” Killings admitted his mistake, apologized and will keep his job as he heads into his second season with the program.
“Coach Killings has acknowledged his error, apologized, and expressed regret, and the University believes he can continue to effectively lead the UAlbany men’s basketball program,” the university’s statement reads.

The incident in question happened during a pregame hype circle in the 2021-22 season.
“The University’s investigation substantiated that there was inappropriate physical contact between Coach Killings and a student-athlete during a pre-game hype circle immediately prior to a road game on November 24, 2021, and that the incident was never reported to administration,” the university says.
Albany received a complaint about this incident several months later on February 27, 2022. Killings was immediately placed on alternate assignment as the school investigated the complaint.
The $25,000 fine will be donated to a local not-for-profit organization selected by the university.
Killings notched a 13-18 record in his first season as head coach of the Albany program.
