Colin Cowherd has made it very clear over the past year that he’s not a huge fan of Drew Lock. Well, the FS1 radio host had plenty of things to say about Lock since he has just been named the Denver Broncos’ backup quarterback for Week 1.
During this Wednesday’s edition of The Herd, Cowherd compared Lock to former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler. The reason he finds them so similar is because they don’t play with a ton of urgency.
“When I watch him, I get the same feeling watching him as I did with Jay Cutler,” Cowherd said. “The great franchise quarterbacks play with urgency. They understand that one mistake – fumble, interception – is the game.”
Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time that Cowherd made this comparison. Two weeks ago, he revealed why he’s out on Lock being a franchise quarterback.
“He’s got a wicked arm. You can’t deny that. He kind of reminds me of Jay Cutler,” Cowherd said. “He kind of seems indifferent. Cutler, who was a super talent, just never clicked. I think you’re looking at a less-talented Jay Cutler and that, to me — I’ll give him another 12 games. To be honest with you, I’d give him about 8.”

Lock struggled mightily during the 2020 season, completing 57.3 percent of his passes for 2,933 yards, 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. NFL fans thought the acquisition of Bridgewater would light a fire under Lock, but that just hasn’t happened.
The Broncos will start the 2021 season on the road against the Giants. If Bridgewater struggles, the coaching staff may consider giving Lock another chance.
