On Tuesday, the Patriots shocked the NFL world by releasing Cam Newton from their roster. It was a clear sign that rookie quarterback Mac Jones will be their starter for Week 1 of the regular season.
Cowherd doesn’t believe Jones will be that crucial to the Patriots’ success this season because the rest of the roster is built very well. On the other hand, he did say that New England could win as many as 12 games this fall. That’s more than he was predicting just a few weeks ago.
“This is not official yet, but I did it this morning. I have New England with two more wins than I proposed,” Cowherd said. “We are underselling them from 10-7 to 12-5.”

The Patriots managed to go 7-9 in 2020 without a very productive offense. If Jones can move the chains at a consistent rate, there’s no reason why they can’t be a playoff-caliber team this fall.
New England’s roster will be immediately put to the test this season, as it’ll face Miami in its season opener. Both teams have the talent to compete for a division title in the AFC East.
Patriots fans, what do you think is a fair record for this year’s team?
