New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard in last night’s preseason game against the Washington Football Team. But Colin Cowherd saw enough to take a pretty bold stance on Jones’ NFL future.
On Friday’s edition of The Herd, the FS1 host stated that he feels Jones as “a very low ceiling” in the NFL. He criticized Jones for not being able to throw the ball over the top well – or at least, not as well as Tom Brady.
“Tom Brady gave you a little bit of everything…” Cowherd said. “The ceiling with Mac Jones feels really low.”
Naturally, Patriots fans and non-fans alike collectively rolled their eyes at Cowherd’s statement. Many are pointing out that the Patriots don’t need Jones to be Tom Brady to be successful.

“Tom Brady was very limited in what he did the first few seasons as a starter,” one fan replied. “He didn’t become world crushing Tom Brady until his third super bowl season and beyond.”
“Every qb needs to adapt and evolve, no one expected Mac to be the next Brady in two Q on a preseason game without the primary weapons,” another fan said.
“He took his first snaps against professional football players – give him some time,” wrote another.
It’s clear that Mac Jones has a long way to go before he can impress Colin Cowherd. But he probably never will if Cowherd sets Tom Brady as the standard for the former Heisman Trophy finalist.
