The Jacksonville Jaguars have a long way to go, but Colin Cowherd thinks there is a move they can make soon that will help them improve.
Jacksonville’s offense has been a mess throughout this preseason, including during last night’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. Rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence has struggled, partially due to questionable play calling and largely due to an offensive line that has failed to protect the No. 1 overall pick and his backup, Gardner Minshew.
On “The Herd” this afternoon, Cowherd described the Jaguars’ situation as a “long rebuild,” but added that he thinks Minshew could help expedite the process. Not by his play on the field, but as trade bait off of it.
“The first thing I would do, I would trade Gardner Minshew tomorrow and get a starter on the offensive line or Trevor Lawrence is going to be in big trouble,” Cowherd said.
“Urban needs to find the weak spots in the NFL, get on the phone, move Gardner Minshew and get that OL better.”@ColinCowherd explains why the Jaguars will not be an easy fix: pic.twitter.com/suR1LFnZ4s

Now, the odds of Minshew being able to net a quality o-line starter as compensation in a trade are pretty slim. The former sixth-round pick is likely to command a Day 3 draft pick or depth piece in return.
Still, if that depth piece is along the offensive line, there’s a chance it can help the Jaguars immediately. That’s how dire things seem up front for Urban Meyer’s squad.
