Coach K doesn’t have much to complain about these days. His team is in the Final Four and he’s days away from retiring. However, there is something the Duke head coach is still upset about.
Mike Krzyzewski doesn’t even recognize the sport of college basketball anymore. The NIL and constant roster turnover due to the transfer portal have changed the sport’s entire landscape. And although Coach K has benefited from both, he’d like to see the NCAA take action to regulate it all.
“This is not the time to look at knits and bits,” Krzyzewski said, via ESPN.com. “It’s time to look at the whole thing.”
What would a practical implementation look like? It’d start by talking to the people involved in the day-to-day operations, including coaches and administrators.
“You should always talk to the people that are being affected by what’s going on now, not by people who are retired or people who are on a committee who don’t have a feel for it,” he added.
“How do you get a feel for it? You have to talk. And a lot of the young coaches would be great in this.”
