North Carolina spoiled any possibility of a fairy-tale ending to Mike Krzyzewski’s coaching career by eliminating Duke from the NCAA tournament on Saturday night.
Following the crushing Final Four defeat, Coach K and his team returned to Duke’s campus in Durham. Students waited for their bus outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium, where the Tar Heels also defeated the Blue Devils in Krzyzewski’s final home game.
Coach K got a microphone and told the crowd that he was proud of his squad for reaching the Final Four before a hard-fought loss at New Orleans.

Duke Basketball’s official Twitter page posted videos of his comments, most of which is difficult to hear over the bus’s engine. During his speech, Coach K expressed his gratitude for getting the chance to spend 42 years at Duke. He also commended North Carolina for its win and talked about the special feeling of being inside the Superdome during the Final Four.

Fighting back tears, Krzyzewski concluded by talking about how special it is to share these moments with his family and the Cameron Crazies.
“I’m a little bit emotional,” Coach K said. “I haven’t slept, but coming in and seeing you all here brought a smile to my face.”
