Brad Calipari, Coach Cal‘s son, has begun a career in the college basketball coaching world, taking after his dad. Better yet, he’ll have an opportunity to be his understudy at Kentucky.
Brad has landed a graduate assistant position on John’s staff. He announced the news via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
“I am extremely excited and honored to begin my coaching career at the University of Kentucky,” Brad said on Twitter. “I would like to thank everyone who has supported me along the way, as I continue to chase my ultimate dream of one day becoming a head coach.”
Coaching’s in his DNA, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Brad carves out a successful coaching career. He’ll first have the chance to work under his own dad, who just happens to be one of the best coaches in basketball.

Brad Calipari began his playing days with the Kentucky Wildcats. He spent three years on Coach Cal’s team, where he appeared in 27 games. Brad transferred to Detroit ahead of the 2019-20 season. He started a total of six games for Detroit over two years. During the 2019-20 season, he scored 6.1 points per game.
Brad now returns to Kentucky where he’ll serve as a graduate assistant. It could be just the start of what blossoms into a successful coaching career.
The Wildcats, meanwhile, are aiming to bounce back from a dreadful 2020-21 season. They missed out on the 2021 NCAA Tournament after going 9-16 overall.
