The Chicago Bears have maintained for over a month that veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start in Week 1 over rookie first-round pick Justin Fields. And over the weekend, the team doubled-down on that stance.
Bears head coach Matt Nagy announced on Saturday that Dalton will be the starter for the Week 1 opener against the Los Angeles Rams. “We need to see him in the regular season,” Nagy said about Dalton.
Bears fans and even general NFL fans weren’t pleased by Nagy’s decision though. Many feel that Fields has earned more consideration for the starting job than Nagy has offered him.
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky was among the biggest voices to rip Nagy for making this decision. He seemingly ripped Andy Dalton for his previous decade of football with the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys:
Where you been the last decade Dude?

Bears fans aren’t exactly thrilled by Nagy or the team overall right now after this decision. Many are pointing out the many issues the team has had for the last several years and believe that Nagy will be fired before long:
Well that seems like a move that won’t end well

Nagy makes bad QB decisions.
Not starting Fields is a bad decision.
Signing Foles was a bad decision.
Continuing to try and make Mitch Trubisky work was repeated bad decision.
Swapping him in and out for Foles was a bad decision.
Matt Nagy makes bad coaching decisions.

When Nagy’s fired at seasons end he has nobody to blame but himself

The Chicago Bears traded up to draft Justin Fields No. 10 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. But despite giving up assets to try and acquire Fields, the Bears have stated for a while that Andy Dalton would be their starting quarterback.
2021 is a critical year for Nagy and the Bears front office. Despite making the playoffs in 2020, they have been very inconsistent in the regular season over the past two years.
Will Matt Nagy pay for this decision? Will he prove the doubters wrong?
