With Super Bowl LVI just a few days away, CBS Sports has decided to rank every Super Bowl that has ever been played.
There have been plenty of great Super Bowl matchups over the past five decades, but one game in particular stands above the rest.
CBS Sports has Super Bowl XLIX between the Patriots and Seahawks ranked at the top of the list.
Seattle had a 24-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter of action, but New England would not be denied. Shortly after Tom Brady led the Patriots on a touchdown drive to make the score 28-24, the Seahawks quickly responded with their own trip to the red zone.
However, the Seahawks’ bid for a championship was ultimately denied by Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler.
From CBS Sports:
“This game had everything. There was controversy coming in (Deflategate had just begun) and it was a battle of the two best teams in football. The defending champion Seahawks came out gunning, the Patriots responded and took over the game and then Russell Wilson and Seattle tried to steal it back with one of the wildest catches by Jermaine Kearse you will ever see. Malcolm Butler promptly took it right back with arguably the greatest defensive play in Super Bowl history.”
Brady was named Super Bowl MVP, finishing the game with 328 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Do you think Super Bowl XLIX belongs in the No. 1 spot?
