The new order at Duke University is beginning to take shape.
Just one day after longtime assistant coach Nolan Smith left the program to join the Louisville Cardinals, head coach Jon Scheyer added a new assistant to his 2022-23 staff.
According to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, Elon head coach Mike Schrage is stepping down from his position to become the newest member of the Blue Devils’ staff.

Schrage was Duke’s director of basketball operations from 2002-08. Scheyer, Mike Krzyzewski’s successor, was a player for the Blue Devils from 2006-10.
After his first stint as a member of the Duke program, Schrage joined Johnny Dawkins’ staff as an assistant coach for Stanford in 2008. He stayed there for eight seasons before taking another assistant job under Chris Holtmann at Butler in 2016. He then followed Holtmann to continue his assistant duties at Ohio State.
Schrage landed his first head coaching job with Elon in 2019. Through three years as leader of the Phoenix, he amassed a 33-52 overall record.
