Cade McNamara and the rest of the Michigan Wolverines escaped New Jersey with a wild triple-overtime win on Saturday night.
With his team trailing Rutgers 17-0 in the second quarter, a desperate Jim Harbaugh made a switch at quarterback, plugging McNamara in for the ineffective Joe Milton. The move paid off immensely.
McNamara completed 27-of-36 passes for 260 yards and four touchdowns, adding a rushing touchdown as the Wolverines rallied and beat the Scarlet Knights 48-42 in three extra frames. The win moved Michigan to 2-3 and saved the season…for now.
It seems like McNamara has established himself as Michigan’s new starter. Early this morning, he summed up his feelings on last night’s game with one simple letter.

Michigan moves on to face 0-5 Penn State next weekend. Assuming a final weekend loss to Ohio State, the Wolverines will need to beat the Nittany Lions and Maryland in order to finish with a .500 record in the regular season.
We’ll see if Cade McNamara is the solution UM has been seeking at quarterback for some time, or if he was simply the magic elixir for this week alone.
