After five seasons with LaVall Jordan as their head coach, Butler have decided to move on and are parting ways with him.
Reports came out on Friday morning that the Bulldogs have fired Jordan. His tenure ends with a 83-73 overall record, a 40-54 Big East record, one NCAA Tournament appearance and one NIT appearance.
Early on in his tenure, Jordan appeared to be the right man for the job. He led Butler to the NCAA Tournament in his first year, upsetting higher-seeded Arkansas in the Round of 64 before falling to Purdue.
In the 2019-20 season, Jordan led the Bulldogs to a 22-9 regular season record. But the cancellation of the 2020 Big East and NCAA Tournament prevented him from potentially making a second trip. Since then, the Bulldogs have gone 24-33.
Butler fans aren’t crying over the firing (though some are confused about the timing). They are already petitioning for their top choices to replace him. Namely, Tom Crean and Dane Fife given their prior ties to the state of Indiana:

As a college basketball player, Lavall Jordan was a star for Butler, helping them win three conference titles in fours years. After a brief pro career, he returned to Butler as an assistant in 2003, which became his springboard into several high profile jobs in the Big Ten.
Jordan’s first head coaching job came with Milwaukee in the 2016-17 season. Despite going 11-24 in his one season there, Butler decided to bring back their former star when Chris Holtmann departed.
We probably haven’t seen the last of LaVall Jordan though. With over a decade of assisting experience in the Power Five, it probably won’t be long before he gets another job.
