March 31, 2022 by The Spun

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians on the field

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wild offseason continued on Wednesday night.

According to a report from NBC Sports and the Los Angeles Times, which has since been confirmed by Sports Illustrated, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians is retiring from coaching.

Arians will be moving into a front office role in Tampa Bay. He will be replaced by Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.

Bowles was linked to some head coaching jobs this offseason, but he remained in Tampa Bay. Now, he’s taking over a Super Bowl contender.

The NFL world is pretty stunned.

I can confirm major news for the Bucs: Bruce Arians is retiring as head coach and moving to the front office, with Todd Bowles replacing him as head coach. @peter_king and @LATimesfarmer had it first. Arians left the owners meetings early this week with a stomach bug.

By leaving now, Arians doesn’t just hand the team over to Bowles but keeps the club’s nearly three dozen coaches in place. Arians still regrets those assistant coaches losing their jobs when he retired from the Arizona Cardinals.

The Buccaneers are expected to have an official announcement on the decision shortly.

Bucs will have an official announcement shortly that Bruce Arians is retiring as head coach. Arians, 69, won a Super Bowl two years ago and is a two-time NFL Coach of the Year. 80-48-1 as a head coach with Arizona and Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay saw Tom Brady retire this offseason, though he lasted in retirement for only a month or so, before deciding to come out of retirement.

The Buccaneers are coming off a playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams, though they head into the 2022 season as Super Bowl contenders once again.
