After suffering a preseason injury, Cleveland Browns linebacker Jacob Phillips will “most likely” miss the entirety of the 2021 campaign.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the 2020 third-round pick tore his biceps tendon during the team’s preseason practice on Thursday.
Obviously every NFL team is looking to avoid unnecessary preseason injuries anywhere on the depth chart — but especially for players who are expected to have a major impact.
Coming off a solid rookie season in 2020, Phillips was primed for an improved Year 2 as a key contributor on the Browns’ defense.

In 2020, the former LSU standout logged 25 tackles through nine games, making three starts.
Phillips wasn’t the only Cleveland linebacker to go down in practice yesterday. Fellow returning LB Sione Takitaki left practice with a hamstring issue. There’ve been no updates on the status of his injury.
Linebacker Mack Wilson also left the Browns’ preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a shoulder injury — though he’s since confirmed that the injury was minor and he’s good to go.
The Browns will take on the New York Giants in their second preseason matchup on Sunday afternoon. The team is set to open the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of last year’s playoff game.
