Baker Mayfield has officially requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. However, that doesn’t mean his wish will be granted.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com appeared on The Herd this Friday to discuss Mayfield’s trade request.
Although it’s apparent that Mayfield wants out of Cleveland, the front office currently has no intention of trading the former No. 1 overall pick.
“Never say never because we’ve all seen crazier things happen. But I do believe right now that their intent is to bring back Baker Mayfield and have him be the starting quarterback, even though he doesn’t want that right now,” Cabot said. “I think they feel he’s their best option for right now and they’re not just going to trade him for the sake of trading him.”

NFL insider Peter Schrager made similar comments this Friday while on The Pat McAfee Show.
“He has very little leverage here,” Schrager said. “He can demand a trade, but I think the Browns brass is like ‘Alright, yeah, sure. We’ll trade you if we want to trade you.’ … The trade demand doesn’t exactly have Cleveland shaking in their boots.”
The Browns have time to mend their relationship with Mayfield before the start of the 2022 season. At this moment though, it’s a pretty awkward situation.
