On Saturday afternoon, the Cleveland Browns made two very interesting quarterback moves.
The Browns traded backup quarterback Case Keenum to the Buffalo Bills for a seventh-round pick, according to multiple reports. Just a few minutes later, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed the Browns added another quarterback to the roster.
According to Schefter, the team signed veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett. He’ll serve as the team’s backup – and potential starter if Deshaun Watson is suspended at all during the 2022 season.
“One day after trading for Deshaun Watson, the Browns now are expected to sign QB Jacoby Brissett to a one-year deal to be Watson’s backup, per sources,” Schefter said. “Cleveland adding two QBs in two days.”

On Friday afternoon, the Browns traded three first-round picks, a third round pick and a fourth round pick to the Houston Texans for Watson. They also paid him $230 million over five years with all $230 million guaranteed.
Watson, however, could be facing a significant suspension. That means Brissett would become the team’s starting quarterback for however long Watson is gone.
Precedent suggests he’ll get at least six games, but the NFL has not made a decision just yet.
