Speaking to the media this week, Flores would neither confirm nor deny the team’s interest in Watson. However, he said that “high character” is something that he prioritizes in adding players to the team.
“There are a lot of things we weigh when we’re making decisions — fit on the team, overall talent, salary cap,” Flores said, via USA Today. “When we’re talking about a player or players, we’re always trying to do what is best for the Miami Dolphins. There are a lot of variables. We want a group that is tough, smart, competitive, loves to play and is team first. Those are the types of guys we’re looking for. We have a high standard for the people we have in the organization. We want people with high character throughout the building.”
Obviously, character is the biggest concern that NFL teams seem to have with Watson right now. His talent is undeniable as he’s a three-time Pro Bowler. It’s whether or not his ongoing legal issues will come back to haunt whoever holds his contract.
Brian Flores asked if he’d feel comfortable saying the team is not interested in DeShaun Watson:

Deshaun Watson is under criminal investigation for multiple counts of assault. The NFL has not yet concluded its own investigation into Watson, which could result in him being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list or being suspended.
On top of all of that, the Texans are reportedly seeking up to five high draft picks in a potential trade. That’s an extremely steep asking price for any player, regardless of talent.
Brian Flores has been tasked with bringing the Dolphins back to relevance after years of subpar football. While Watson could help him achieve that, there are risks involved.
