After the Giants named rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart the starter for Week 4, this could lead to a huge trade involving veteran Russell Wilson at some point during the season. According to the breaking news, the Giants are officially starting Dart finally after sitting on the bench for the first three matchups of the 2025 regular season. With that, this more than likely puts an end to Wilson’s time in New York, as he will become a free agent next offseason. Originally selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, the former NC State and Wisconsin product has become a journeyman between the Broncos, Steelers and now the Giants after recording 10 Pro Bowls during his time with the Seattle Seahawks.
Even at age 36, he should be able to get plenty of interest, which could mean that teams might take a look at him now. Wilson was hoping to carve out a role in the Giants’ offense, but he faced an uphill battle against Dart and third-string Jameis Winston. Ultimately, Wilson won the job, but his performance wasn’t enough to bring in at least one win for the Giants. It’s not like he’s the worst quarterback if he becomes available on the trade block, as he almost put up 500 passing yards against the Dallas Cowboys.
Wilson still holds the record for most wins by an NFL quarterback, so he’s still adequate, and these three teams should be able to roll the dice on him to save their season.

Possible Next Teams
Cincinnati Bengals
With Joe Burrow out for at least three months due to a brutal injury, the Cincinnati Bengals are still on the hunt for an adequate quarterback. Jake Browning got his chance against the Minnesota Vikings, and it didn’t go as planned, like the Bengals were hoping. The Bengals were hopeful that Browning would replicate the success he had during the 2023 campaign when he stepped in for Burrow again and led the team to be 4-3 record. However, it seems like the Bengals should trade for a bridge signal-caller like Wilson until his contract expires to help them get back in postseason contention.
It’ll be a challenge for Wilson, but since he has weapons like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, he should be able to bring out the best in them.
Miami Dolphins
Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins will need to move on from Tua Tagovailoa, head coach Mike McDaniel and wide receiver Tyreek Hill at this stage. The aura and chemistry just aren’t there for this team. Just like the Bengals, it’s going to be hard to be a postseason contender since the team can’t stay on the same page. If nothing else, Wilson could bring this team back to a winning record before the season is over.
Las Vegas Raiders
However, don’t count out Pete Carroll to make an immediate trade. Even though he’s betting his chips on quarterback Geno Smith, he could bring home his old signal-caller. Wilson and Carroll in Las Vegas should bring some new life as Smith can’t seem to connect with Ashton Jeanty, Tre Tucker and Jakobi Meyers.
