A tough summer for the Jacksonville Jaguars continued on Tuesday with the news that rookie running back Travis Etienne will likely miss the entire season.
Etienne, who the Jaguars selected with the 25th overall pick of the first round back in April, left last night’s loss to the New Orleans Saints with a sprained foot. According to reports, Etienne suffered a dreaded Lisfranc injury.
He will undergo surgery, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, and is out for at least the next 12 weeks. There is still a slight chance Etienne could return at some point late in the season, but it looks likely that the former Clemson star will have to wait until 2022 to make his regular season debut.
Tests results today revealed that Jaguars’ rookie RB Travis Etienne suffered a mid-foot sprain that is Lisfranc that now is likely to end his season, per source.

Officially, the timeline is 12 weeks minimum for Travis Etienne. He’ll have surgery as soon as possible and then would have a chance to come back late in the season if all goes well and it makes sense. https://t.co/v0wlCEaw4z

The loss of Etienne is another huge blow for a Jaguars’ offense that has looked pitiful through two preseason games. Urban Meyer used a first-round pick on Etienne with the hope that he’d be able to energize the team from the get go with his ability as a runner and receiver.
Instead, it looks like James Robinson will carry the load again in Jacksonville. Fortunately, the former undrafted free agent proved himself capable as a rookie in 2020, rushing for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns and catching 49 passes for 344 yards and three scores.
Veterans Carlos Hyde and Dare Ogunbowale also figure to have larger roles for Jacksonville this fall.
