Breaking: Adam Schefter Breaks Silence On Dwayne Haskins Tweet

April 12, 2022 by The Spun

ESPN insider Adam Schefter talking on the set of Monday Night Football.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter took a lot of heat for his tweet that broke the news of Dwayne Haskins passing over the weekend.

In his in memoriam for the 24-year-old QB, Schefter highlighted his storied year at Ohio State, before talking about how Haskins “struggled to catch on” in the NFL. The tweet was seen as callous and a bit of a low blow at a young man that had just died.

How about “ Dwayne Haskins, son, husband, buckeye brother, friend, beloved teammate has passed away” TF his career ups and downs have to do with him unfortunately losing his life🤦🏾‍♂️ STFU! Let his family & friends grieve instead of throwing shade. Praying for the Haskins family!! pic.twitter.com/gb1D9KcgCQ

On Monday, Schefter took to his podcast to address the backlash and apologize for his remarks in the post.

“First I wanted to address the death of Dwayne Haskins and the tweet that I posted this weekend,” the insider began. “It was insensitive. It was a mistake. And I can assure you it was not my intention. I wish that I could have that tweet back.”

“The focus should’ve been on Dwayne,” Schefter continued. “Who he was as a person, a husband, a friend and so much more. I want to apologize to Dwayne’s family, his friends, players in the National Football League and offer my condolences to everybody close to Dwayne.”

Schefter went on to share a two-minute amended tribute to the late Steelers QB. Speaking about how Dwayne was seen by teammates, coaches and the Pittsburgh community. Touching on his incredible selflessness, likability and work ethic to become the man he became at 24 years old.
