Bills Announce Starting Quarterback For Saturday’s Bears Game

August 19, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Buffalo Bills Training Camp

The Buffalo Bills are going to keep star quarterback Josh Allen under wraps for their second preseason game against the Chicago Bears. So head coach Sean McDermott has decided on his replacement starter for the away game.

On Thursday, the Bills announced that backup Mitchell Trubisky will start against the Bears. It’ll be a somewhat anticipated matchup given Trubisky’s history.

Trubisky was the No. 2 overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2016 NFL Draft. From 2016 to 2020, he was the Bears’ starter, going 29-21 and leading the Bears to the playoffs twice.

But despite making the Pro Bowl in 2017, Trubisky never seemed to play to the level the Bears wanted. They declined his fifth year option after the 2019 season and let him hit free agency earlier this year.

Rather than pursue a starting job, Trubisky signed on with the Buffalo Bills as a backup to Josh Allen.

The Chicago Bears, meanwhile, wasted no time drafting Mitchell Trubisky’s replacement. They traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft to take Ohio State superstar Justin Fields.

But much like Trubisky, Fields is also not expected to start this year – not off the bat at least. Fields will likely start the season on the bench behind veteran Andy Dalton.

Saturday’s game between the Bills and Bears will be an interesting showcase of Chicago’s past and potential future. Fans are already excited.

Who do you think will perform better in the game: Mitchell Trubisky or Justin Fields?
