Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy continues to say that veteran Andy Dalton will be the team’s starting quarterback when the season opens in September.
Rookie Justin Fields has played well throughout the preseason – and most Bears fans seem to prefer the former Ohio State star – but it’s Dalton’s time for now.
“Do I want the fans behind me and this team and all that kind of stuff? Yes. Do I want them behind Justin? Absolutely I do,” Dalton told reporters earlier this month. “… Justin’s gonna have his time and Justin’s gonna have a great career, but right now it’s my time and so right now my focus is on being the best player I can be for this team and do everything I can to help this team win.”
Bears legend Willie Gault says the team’s quarterback decision is obvious: play Fields.
“The coach is going to make that decision, but for me, let’s go!” the former Bears wide receiver said of Fields.
“Why not?! Off the bat, absolutely.”
