The Chicago Bears still have Nick Foles and his bloated contract on their books despite only using him in one game last year. But they recently tried to move the former Super Bowl MVP.
NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported on Friday morning that the Bears have been exploring trades for Foles. The team’s recent decision to sign backup Trevor Siemian indicates to him that they will continue to do so.
But moving Foles will likely require a team to eat part of his remaining contract. He has a $10.6 million cap number in 2022, and the Bears have already paid part of his salary. Cutting him would be difficult for the Bears given the cap penalty.
As a result, NFL fans are weighing in on the situation with Foles. Some believe that he can be had for cheap, others feel he isn’t good enough to be worth anything at all. Still others (specifically Eagles fans) believe that it’s time for Foles to return to Philadelphia:
Good luck with that “exploration,” #Bears. You might have a better shot of finding Jimmy Hoffa than a trade partner on this one. https://t.co/2VK2uOfLBt

Foles gave the league a good look late last year in a win over Seattle. A top flight backup should have at least some value. Though, Bears will end up taking what they can get and the rest of the league knows a release is now likely. https://t.co/R525QgQRyR

In 2021, Nick Foles played in one game – a Week 15 start against the Seattle Seahawks. He went 24 of 35 for 250 yards and a touchdown in a 25-24 upset win.
But the Bears promptly returned to Andy Dalton the following week and let him finish the season.
At 33 years of age and with a very limited skillset, Foles’ days as a full-time starter may be over. But if a team is willing to give him another chance at being a backup, maybe his career will last a little longer.
Where will Nick Foles play in 2022?
