It’s been a week since Antonio Brown’s now-infamous “exit” from MetLife Stadium. But Brown has apparently been dealing with a nagging ankle injury, and he’s now set a date to finally get it fixed.
On Sunday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared an email confirming Brown’s ankle surgery with Dr. Martin O’Malley. The surgery date is now set for Tuesday, January 18 – subject to change.
Brown has spent days ripping the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for making him play against the Jets on an injured ankle. He said that when he refused to continue playing, head coach Bruce Arians effectively fired him on the spot.
The Bucs have refuted the allegation that Brown’s injury had anything to do with what happened against the Jets. But if Brown really is getting surgery, it’s a strong indicator that the truth is on his side.

But while Antonio Brown may ultimately get what he’s owed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it’s probably not going to help his future NFL prospects. The way he left MetLife Stadium may make teams think twice about signing him this offseason.
Then again, we’ve seen wide receivers who have done more heinous things than Brown get second, third and fourth chances.
All it takes is one team that sees Brown as the final piece of a championship puzzle and his antics at MetLife Stadium will become a decent memory.
Will Antonio Brown play at all next season?
